However, one important aspect of discourse that has not been readily assessed in adults with aphasia is the lexical diversity of their verbal production. Given the observation that many of the error types observed in adults with aphasia appear to be, at least in part, lexical in nature, it seems of particular importance to refine the tools we use in measuring aspects of the lexical domain in discourse production. One measure of lexical diversity in conversation has enjoyed particular popularity in the child language literature for decades: type-token ratio (TTR).
